Facilitator CPS 6.1 Certification course content
The Facilitator Certification course provides a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to :
1
Understanding and navigating the CPS 6.1 framework
Participants will gain a thorough grounding in the structure and philosophy of the CPS 6.1 model, which is designed as a flexible, descriptive system for creative problem solving. They will learn how to appraise tasks and design processes using the "Planning Your Approach" component, ensuring that each facilitation session is purposefully tailored to the context and needs of the group. This includes understanding when and how to enter or exit different stages of the CPS process, and how to select the most relevant tools and techniques for each situation.
2
Facilitating each stage of the CPS 6.1 process
The course will train participants to facilitate all four main components and eight stages of CPS 6.1: Understanding the Challenge, Generating Ideas, Preparing for Action (Developing Solutions, and Planning Your Approach (Appraising Tasks, Designing Process). Facilitators will learn how to guide groups through generating and focussen activities at each stage—encouraging expansive idea generation and then focusing on selecting and developing the most promising solutions. They will practice using specific CPS tools and learn how to apply guidelines for both creative and critical thinking.
3
Leveraging cognitive diversity and problem-solving styles
A distinctive feature of the course is its integration of the VIEW model, which helps facilitators recognize and leverage the diverse problem-solving styles present within their teams. Participants will learn to assess and appreciate differences in orientation to change, manner of processing, and ways of deciding—core dimensions of the VIEW model that align with the various stages of CPS 6.1. This awareness enables facilitators to tailor their approach to maximize participation, creativity, and collective intelligence. By understanding and managing cognitive diversity, facilitators can optimize team learning and performance, as supported by research on the curvilinear relationship between diversity and collective intelligence in teams.
4
Embedding facilitation best prac-tices and continuous improvement
Finally, the course emphasizes the role of the facilitator as a process guide, psychological safety champion, and organizational change agent—roles that are essential for the effective application of CPS 6.1. Participants will learn best practices for structuring sessions, managing group dynamics, and fostering an inclusive environment where all voices are heard. They will also be trained in reflective practice, using feedback and assessment tools to continuously improve their facilitation skills and the outcomes of CPS sessions. This includes learning how to embed creative routines and support ongoing learning and adaptability within organizations, ensuring that the benefits of CPS 6.1 extend beyond individual sessions to drive sustained innovation and change.
